1.  Assessment of Government of India’s Gender Mainstreaming Programs for Women in Science
DST/NSTMIS/05/211/2016-17
DST 2119700 18 Months Dr. Maninder kaur / NA 3 To assess the impacts of the various government schemes on the Women Beneficiaries (W-PIs) in S&T using appropriate statistical methods during 2003 to 2019.To suggest an indicative framework including identification of ‘best practices’ for strengthening of the gender mainstreaming programmes of various departments.
2.  Forensic Anthropological Examination of Odontological, Molecular and Elemental Characteristic of Adult Human Teeth for Identification of Northwest Indian Subjects of Chandigarh Region
Nil
UGC-BSR 6.00 4 years Dr. Jagmahender Singh / Nil 1 . To investigate the relative contribution of human dentition in biological profiling (sex and age) of an individual. 2. To produce complete DNA profile from the pulpal and dentin tissue of the extracted teeth through DNA profiling 3. To prepare sex specific genetic profile of an individual from analysis of X, Y homologous amelogenin gene segment/locus. 4. To predict age and sex dependent differences in elemental composition of teeth. 5. To assess the effect of different environmental challenges/taphonomic factors like high temperature, acidity/alkalinity of substrate etc., on their forensic suitability of biochemical or molecular dental characteristics. 6. To find a relationship between exposure to trace elements (due to smoking, pollution or drug/alcohol abuse) and health status of the donor of tooth.
3.  Making Sense of Diabetes: Bio-socio- cultural Dimensions and its Management in Chandigarh.
6325
UGC 13.41 3 Years Prof. A.k. Sinha / Prof. S.K. Bhadada 3 1. To assess the effects of social stigma associated with leprosy and in particular, its effect on a patient's behaviour and relationship. 2. To explore the factors associated with socio - cultural beliefs and stigmatising attitues towards leprosy patients. 3. To study the impact of leprosy on a patient's behaviour and his family as well as social relationships. 4. To know the socio-cultural beliefs and misconceptions about leorosy. To estimate the levels of anxiety among the leprosy patients. to assess the participation and participation restrictions in the society of leprosy patients.
4.  Human Health, Disease and Evolution in parts of noth and central india: Bio-cultural aspects (PURSE-II)
52-54/RPC
DST 25.00 5 Years Chairperson / All faculty 11 • To study the biological and cultural aspects of growth, nutritional status, health, physique, body composition and diseases among various populations in the parts of north and central India and to analuze the gender, ethnic and regional differences and their probable causes. • To study the reproductive behavior of women and associated health problems and to assess sex differences in mortality, morbidity and imbalanced sex ratio and to study the possible factors or attributes responsible for a low or high sex ratio. • To search for biological and cultural evidences for human evolution in the parts of north and central India and to reconstruct the past environmental conditions.' • To establish a genetic basis for various diseases (including chronic disease) and their risk factors (including food like/dislike).
In-Progress
5.  Forensic Anthropological Provenancing od Human Sleletal remains excavated from a well at Ajnela (Amritsar): Bones, teeth and personal artefacts as identity significances
EMR/2016/006481
DST-SERB 30.58 3 Years Dr. J.S. Sehrawat / Nil 1 • To establish the identity/provenance of the victims from the available dental and skeletal material. • To estimate the geographic origin, health and disease conditions, lifetime nutritional and dietary status of the victims from elemental and stable isotope analyses of the teeth and bones. • To extract, quantify and amplify mtDNA from teeth and compare SNP polymorphisms with present day DNA databases of different Indian population groups to opine whether victims were local or non-local to the site. • To identify any traumatic insults or taphonomic damages to the recovered human skeletal and dental remains. • To suggest the minimum or most likely number of individuals based on the available biological and archaeological evidences.
6.  Association of menopausal symptoms and fat distribution with cognitive functions among rural women of Haryana
Nil
DST 2268240 36 Months Dr. Maninder kaur / NA 2 This research project is an attempt to assess cognitive function with respect to different menopausal stages of women. To estimate cognitive function with respect to different menopausal symptoms experienced by perimenopausal and postmenopausal women. To evaluate association of bone mineral density, body fat mass and fat distribution with cognitive function in postmenopausal women
7.  Human Ecology in Northwest India, Biocultural dimensions of health and Disease , Palaeoanthropology and Molecular Anthropology
nil
UGC 94.00 5 Years Prof. Abhik Ghosh and Dr. Maninder Kaur / NA 7 • To collect fossils materials on primates and other mammalian genera to fill gaps in the knowledge. • To reconstruct paleoecology of the region • To collect lithic tools used by the early man in the region • To study DNA unique patterns from the fossil materials on primates • To study the gene flow among the contemporary human populations • To identify individuals, determine paternity estimates relatedness and inferences about whether evolutionary forces are affecting , genetic diversity in natural populations with the help of molecular genetic data • To study Social structure and microsatellite variations in primates
